Secondhand Books

We now sell secondhand canal books, plus a limited number of railway books.

Books for sale

We have several hundred titles, including most of the David & Charles/Hadfield Canals of the British Isles series, and around 30 different Rolt titles (incl. railway, industry etc.).  Please email sales@canalbookshop.co.uk or phone 01270 811059 with your requirements, and we will check our stock.  We will tell you the condition - see details below.

Payment, including the UK or overseas postage charge, can be made by debit or credit card over the phone or by fax; by cheque (GBP - pounds sterling); or by PayPal - just transfer the relevant amount to our PayPal account (sales@audlemmill.co.uk)

If you want to sell your canal books …

We do not buy secondhand books, but may agree to sell yours on a sale or return basis.  We make no upfront charges for displaying books in our shop or sales via this page, but we take a percentage commission on the sale price of each book. We would expect you to get the books to our shop in Cheshire at your expense, but please do not bring books without discussing things in advance by phone.

We regret that we do not sell magazines such as IWA Bulletins, Waterways World, Canal Boat etc. (even annual sets in binders), as demand is minimal.  The magazine Narrow Boat is a possible exception, as we do sometimes get asked for back issues.

Book condition

Grading

MINT - The book is in near perfect condition. It is complete with its dust-wrapper and is impossible to tell from a new copy. Dustjacket (if present) is as new.

FINE - The book appears to be in excellent condition. Closer examination however will show signs of ownership and storage. There may also be a small inscription from previous ownership, but generally the book is in near perfect condition. Dustjacket (if present) is as new, but with very slight rubbing on the corners.

VERY GOOD - Slightly less than fine condition. Apart from slight foxing or fading, the book has no faults.  Dustjacket (if present) is clean with excellent colouring but with slight rubbing to most edges and corners.

GOOD - It is obvious that the book is second-hand. However apart from minor faults, it may be assumed that books in good condition are complete in all respects, unless described otherwise. Dustjacket (if present) is fairly clean with almost perfect colouring but suffering from marks, creasing and other signs of wear. Most of the edges are rubbed or have very small tears in them.

POOR - This means that the book will display serious wear and damage, it may be warped, the preliminary pages may be missing and the spine irreparably damaged. The text however will be complete but the book is really only suitable as a reading copy. Dustjacket (if present) will be tatty and grubby and may well be marked, creased or torn.
